基隆河畔，台北市最美麗的英式古蹟博物館－台北故事館，

十一年前由香港人陳國慈認養，首開台灣個人經營古蹟之首例，

迄今累積參觀人潮超過三百萬人。許多人不知道的是，認養古蹟的背後源自陳國慈對香港的記憶與深情。

台北故事館的故事

從台北茶商陳朝駿的洋樓、到前立法院院長黃國書先生的住宅、藝品館、公園路燈管理處、美術家聯誼中心；從日治時期、第二次世界大戰、台灣光復、美軍協防階段到現在，這棟洋樓歷經了滄海桑田、人事變化。而此刻，她生機勃勃地正要開始說關於台北的故事，她，叫做「台北故事館」。

這個正在說故事的地點－「台北故事館」，也就是台北市定古蹟，早在一百多年前，就一頁頁寫下在台北發生的故事。時間是1914年，同樣的露台上也同樣站著、坐著三三兩兩的客人－－來自上流社會的中外人士。台北茶商公會會長、「永裕茶行」經營者陳朝駿，正熱絡的在客人間交際。從露台的階梯緩步走下，基隆河就靜靜在眼前流淌，「台灣神社」則在對岸矗立。

這棟洋樓的興建，不只建構出名媛公子留連交際的繁華氛圍，也書寫出以茶為主的台灣上流社會的生活方式與文化，更見證了那個輝煌而美好的時代。

隨著陳朝駿的英年早逝，加上世界大戰引起的經濟衰退、各國提高關稅政策……導致台灣茶的市場萎縮，1932年「永裕茶行」結束營業，這棟洋樓的繁華、台灣茶的黃金年代、陳朝駿的輝煌碩果，也一併被沒收，隱沒在時間的洪流裡。

然而，美好的年代，是不會結束的，如果，有人願意繼續說故事。讓這棟洋樓繼續說故事的，就是陳國慈，於是，洋樓變成了「台北故事館」。

幾十年來，陳國慈每天下班經過看著這棟老房子，勾起對於英國的回憶。生於香港的陳國慈，對於英式文化相當熟悉，再加上遠至英國唸法律，英國的生活就是她自己的生活方式之一，也是記憶的一部分。這樣具有厚度的記憶與情感，讓她看到這棟洋樓日益凋零殘破的時候，更加感傷；也是這種感傷，讓陳國慈認養了「她」。

「我希望能將古蹟活化，產生全新的生命力。」這樣的念頭，讓陳國慈將「台北故事館」轉變為不再只是僅供瞻仰的古蹟，而是以城市人文生活為主軸，結合古蹟保存、庶民生活歷史、茶文化等的活古蹟。在屋貌不變的狀況下，不斷調整屋內的活動、展覽，舉辦不同主題的專題演講等，讓故事館朝氣蓬勃，也讓民間維護古蹟的做法得到大眾認同。

「所有的記憶與認同都少不了老房子，希望在不久的將來，承載無數故事與歷史的台北故事館，可以讓大家找到屬於自己的故事，」陳國慈說。

The Story of Taipei Story House

Taipei Story House has started story-telling since 1914. It was built by a successful tea merchant Chen Chao-chun to entertain his clients. Parties on its veranda have seen people come and go, witnessing the rise and fall of Chen's tea business in the 1920s.

Although the Taipei City Government designated it a heritage site in 1998, it didn't stop this Tudor building from deteriorating. It wasn't until 2003 when the building was given a second life. Ms. K. C. Chen (Eva Tan), born in Hong Kong and a barrister-at-law of the United Kingdom, sponsored the establishment of Taipei Story House there. Since then, it becomes home to a wide range of exhibitions and cultural events, and has attracted more than 12,000 visitors every month.

Ms. Chen named the building Taipei Story House, in the hope that stories will be told and passed on, and all people have their own stories to tell.

陳國慈簡介

陳國慈生長於香港，1966年從香港拔萃女書院畢業後，留學英國Inner Temple考取得英國大律師，隨後陸續考取美國加州、新加坡律師資格，並在紐約、舊金山從事律師工作。1975年移居台灣繼續律師工作，至1995年出任國家文化藝術基金會首任執行長，創立以政府資源補助全國藝文活動之制度。1997年被邀轉任台灣積體電路製造股份有限公司資深副總經理暨法務長，同時擔任台積電文教基金會首任董事長。陳女士曾擔任國立清華大學、國立政治大學、東吳大學講座教授。自2014年陳女士擔任國家表演藝術中心首任董事長。

2003年至今，陳女士以贊助並創立由國有古蹟所轉型的「台北故事館」，成為台灣認養古蹟的第一位個人。

Ms. K. C. Chen (Eva Tan) was born in Hong Kong. After graduating from Diocesan Girls' School in 1966, she qualified as barrister-at-law at Inner Temple, U.K. and thereafter became Advocate and Solicitor of Singapore and Attorney-at-law in California, U.S.A. After practicing law in New York and San Francisco, Ms. Chen moved to Taiwan in 1975 and continued her law practice there. She was appointed the founding President of the National Culture and Arts Foundation in 1995, responsible for administering the Taiwan Government's arts subsidy programs. Ms. Chen was then appointed the Senior Vice-President and General Counsel of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in 1997, during which she also became the founding Chairman of TSMC Education and Culture Foundation. Ms. Chen has served as chair professors at the National Tsing Hua University, the National Chengchi University and the Soochow University. In 2014, Ms. Chen was appointed the founding Chairman of the National Performing Arts Center in Taiwan.

Since 2003, Ms. Chen became the first private citizen in Taiwan to sponsor and operate a national heritage site which she transformed into a museum "Taipei Story House".

「台灣老行業的故事」展覽簡介

由古蹟蛻變再生的台北故事館，自2003年開館以來，即以「懷舊」為主題向大家述說百年來台灣常民生活文化。台灣傳統老行業象徵著屬於那個時代的一股勤奮、堅持和在地精神，也最能彰顯台灣藝術之美與獨具的文化氣息。

此次《台北故事館說「台灣老行業的故事」》展覽透過五十位台灣藝術家以他們的鏡頭、畫筆、手工、雕刻刀等所創作的藝術品，向香港朋友介紹三十多種台灣傳統行業的職人身影，也向大家所懷念的老行業師傅們致敬。

展覽中另以陳國慈女士所創辦的台北故事館為範例，介紹台灣小型古蹟空間的再造。以它們的歷史與建築特色為舞台，透過各藝文活動，讓老房子們在現代大都會中展現一種新的活力。

"The Story of Old Businesses in Taiwan" Exhibition

Taipei Story House was transformed from a heritage site in 2003. Since its opening, all exhibitions have been dedicated to themes which showcase the cultural history of Taiwan.

The traditional old businesses of Taiwan is a subject which inspires nostalgic beauty and reminds us of an era which personified hard work, perseverance and a commitment to one's home. Through works of 50 Taiwan artists using different art forms, the Taipei Story House presents "The Story of Old Businesses in Taiwan" Exhibition introduces over 30 old businesses of Taiwan to friends in Hong Kong. We welcome you to join us in saluting these beloved masters from days gone by.

Through Taipei Story House, which was founded by Ms. K.C. Chen (Eva Tan), we also share in this exhibition Taiwan's experience in bringing new life to a modern metropolis by the conversion of small heritage buildings into arts/culture venues.

台北故事館簡介

台北故事館起造於1913年，為台灣古蹟中僅存的一棟英國都鐸式風格洋樓。幾經歲月流轉，2003年它由生長在香港的陳國慈女士贊助創辦「台北故事館」，開立台灣以個人身分認養古蹟的首例。古蹟從此蛻變為介紹台灣生活文化與推廣古蹟教育的博物館。從2003年開館以來，參觀人數達300萬人。

台北故事館每年舉辦逾百場的藝文活動，型態多元有創意，包含以台灣生活文化為主題的展覽、文史講座、文學沙龍、街區深度導覽、音樂表演、茶藝推廣及市集活動等。除此之外，古蹟園區內還包含由一百多種台灣花木打造而成的「英式花園」，以昨日童年為設計主軸的復古「小公園」，展售文史城市旅行書籍及台灣原創手作藝品為主的「故事書坊」，以及歐式人文風情為主的簡約時尚餐廳的「故事茶坊」等，讓您從不同的角度去聽、去看、去感受老時代的美麗時光。

Built in 1913, Taipei Story House is the only remaining Tudor style structure in Taiwan. In 2003, Ms. K.C. Chen (Eva Tan) sponsored the establishment of Taipei Story House as a museum to showcase historic cultural life of Taiwan, as well as promoting the re-use of historical buildings. Since 2003, visitors to Taipei Story House have exceeded three million.

Taipei Story House hosts more than 100 activities annually that feature life and culture of Taiwan, including exhibitions, seminars, literary salons, guided tours, musical performances, tea lectures and fairs. In addition, Taipei Story House houses an English garden with more than one hundred varieties of Taiwan vegetation; a playground themed "childhood of yesteryear"; the Story Bookstore, which promotes books on the history and culture of Taiwan as well as original Taiwan arts and crafts, and the simple but chic Story Tea House.
