這次2017台灣月 生祥樂隊香港演唱會,會以去年創作出版的《圍庄》概念雙唱片的音樂內容為主,這專輯以石化工業跟我們生活交纏交戰的故事為題材,以兩張唱片的篇幅,把重點放在空氣污染、水源問題、石化工業等人為禍害,盼求透過作品喚起更多人對環境污染的關注。唱片去年透過在臺灣的眾籌募資平台Flying V,以破紀錄的超額完成,順利在去年5月20日 出版。

 

過去一年,《圍庄》 概念雙唱片在去年第七屆金音創作獎,獲得《評審團獎》、《最佳專輯獎》和 《最佳民謠單曲獎》。也在今年六月頒發的第廿八屆的流行音樂金曲獎中,再度獲得評審最重要肯定頒予《評審團獎》。

 

生祥樂隊從去年5月舉辦三場售票演唱會,到10-11月全臺灣北中南的10場大學[圍庄校園巡迴] ,以至今年5月在台北國際會議中心舉辦的《菊花夜行軍15週年紀念演唱會》,林生祥在出道 20 年,成功完售 3000 人中型場地。這次香港的演唱會,也得到香港中文大學藝術行政主任辦公室的支持,在中大邵逸夫堂演出,除了延續分享圍庄這張被金曲奬評審團主席黃韻玲形容為:「不只是一張音樂專輯,更是土地結合音樂的紀錄」的歌曲外,也會加入《菊花夜行軍》和其他專輯的經典歌曲。同時,更會邀請黑鳥主唱郭達年擔任特別嘉賓,兩位同為土地發聲的音樂人史無前例,破天荒合作演出。

 

樂隊簡介

生祥樂隊的成員有:林生祥/月琴、電月琴、主唱,大竹研/吉他,早川徹/電貝司,吳政君/打擊樂器,福島紀明/鼓手,黃博裕/嗩吶手,及詩人鍾永豐。永豐與生祥的詞曲合作,始於1998年交工樂隊時期的「我等就來唱山歌」專輯,至今已發表七張專輯。鍾永豐拿過兩屆金曲獎最佳作詞人獎座,林生祥則有七座金曲獎、十座金音獎。2001年他們的音樂創作走向國際,巡迴歐、亞、美洲等十幾個國家。日本籍的大竹研與早川徹分別於2006、09年加入,吳政君則於2011年成為團員,福島紀明和黃博裕則於2014年成為團員;樂手皆有爵士樂的即興修養,每一次的現場演出,均有令人驚喜的表現。生祥樂隊關注農工、環境議題,音樂上則以台灣傳統音樂元素為基底,並協調西方當代音樂,成為台灣獨樹一格的新民謠樂種。

 

【林生祥】

將台灣農民與勞工故事傳唱下去的誠實音樂人

美濃子弟林生祥於1994年,和他的樂團「觀子音樂坑」投入聲援家鄉反水庫運動的行列。1998年,林生祥與美濃愛鄉協進會合辦「過庄尋柳」、「遊蕩美麗島」演唱會後,開始嚴肅地思考音樂的社會文化意義,而後決定回鄉,這也是他往後音樂生命歷程的重要起點。走過反水庫的交工時期,以及與各界樂手合作碰撞的時期,林生祥的創作廣度不斷跨越,濃度也持續增加。但他的關懷主題卻始終圍繞著土地與農民──既是他的起點,也是他的養分。

 

音樂上,林生祥再次回到以月琴創作的思路;但不同於交工樂隊的時代,月琴不再是拼貼的元素。林生祥認真地思考,傳統樂器在現代演出場景的應用,從增弦、定弦到調弦,並實驗各種音響性的可能。他將過去四年專注在吉他上的節奏排練,移植回月琴演奏上,而曾在吉他上思考的月琴應用,折返至月琴,綜合出一種在現代演出條件改變下、仍能不背離傳統的音色。這樣來回建構的音樂思考之路,使他的音樂更為誠懇厚重。

 

【大竹研】(日本)

林生祥近年來最重要與密切合作的音樂夥伴。

1974年生於日本。高中時代接觸電吉他和熱門音樂,大學時代開始觸類旁通搖滾、爵士、民謠等各式樂種,近幾年潛心鑽研木吉他演奏技巧,並曾與沖繩民謠大師平安隆(Takashi Hirayasu)搭檔多年,重新編演沖繩民謠, 平安隆譽之為「最沉穩內斂的搭檔夥伴」。

大竹研透過對音樂理性的拆解與分析,佐以原音彈撥,卻發揮較插電效果器更富想像力的音響效果,提煉出創新的音樂能量。與客家新民謠創作人林生祥初識於2003年流浪之歌音樂節,此後密切合作演出及創作,受到高度矚目。2006年《種樹》中畫龍點睛的演出,2009年《野生》專輯中吉他與吉他默契對話,《大地書房》中的大竹研與林生祥,更是難以拆解的契合 。

 

【早川徹】(日本)

早川徹是出身於日本爵士樂界、極受重視的新生代電貝斯手,他的演奏風格獨具一格,靈動的節奏,是許多亞洲樂人欠缺的。同時,他擅長多樣旋律樂器,也使得他在扮演貝斯手的角色時,不侷限於低音節奏的線條,而能超越樂器的特色,與合作樂人以共同悠游的姿態,貫穿樂曲。

 

【吳政君】

畢業於國立台灣戲曲學院,擅長南胡、拉丁打擊樂器、中國打擊樂器、世界手鼓、爵士鼓等多項樂器,學生時代即以優異表現受邀與多位國樂名家同台演出。近年來以國樂素養與多方位的打擊才華,跨足世界音樂、爵士樂、拉丁音樂、流行音樂等領域,曾與張惠妹、江蕙、任賢齊、戴佩妮、日本鬼太鼓座、變形蟲爵士樂團、聲之動等歌手及樂團合作演出,現為 Montonos 拉丁樂團、絲竹空爵士樂團、聲之動樂團團員,並任教於台灣戲曲專科學校。

 

【福島紀明】(日本)

福島紀明師出日本爵士音樂家古澤良治郎,打鼓的風格有多種,從流行歌搖滾、爵士、自由即興等都難不了他。 2014年,與大竹研和早川徹首次以「東京中央線」名義在台灣巡迴,並於2015年到香港演出,大獲好評。同年加入生祥樂隊的圍庄雙CD專輯錄音及巡迴。

 

【黃博裕】

 80後的年輕樂手,畢業於國立台灣戲曲學院,主修嗩吶。現就讀國立台北藝術大學。曾師承呂燕玲、林子由、郭進財、黃章桐,並曾向中國大陸演奏家郭雅志、李光才、單文通等名師請益。

林生祥,生於台灣高雄美濃的獨立音樂創作人,其音樂作品多與社會運動與土地等題材連結,並以關懷鄉土的母語創作聞名。知名樂評人馬世芳認為:「這個美濃客家莊的孩子,已經做出了拿到全世界都足以讓台灣人抬頭挺胸的音樂。」請聽林生祥如何以音樂守護土地。講座主持郭達年是香港獨立音樂人,傳奇地下樂隊黑鳥的靈魂人物。黑鳥樂隊約於1979年成立,二十年後正式解散。

Lin Sheng-Xiang was born and growing up in Meinong of Kaohisung, Taiwan. Many of his works are social protest songs expressing concerns for homeland and the environment, while well-known for writing in his mother tongue singing out his compassion of the rural Taiwan. “This Hakka village kid of Meinong has created music presenting to the international platform that made all Taiwanese proud”, as commended by famous music critic Ma Shih-fang. In this seminar, Lin will talk about how he defend the rural land with his music. Acclaimed Hong Kong independent musician Lenny Kwok is our invited guest seminar host, Kwok founded the legendary indie band Blackbird in 1979 and announced closing curtains on its twentieth anniversary.

The title of Sheng-Xiang & Band concert in Hong Kong for 2017 Taiwan Culture Festival follows their latest album “Village Besieged” released last May. The 2CD album is collection of songs about the Band’s concerns for air-pollution, how industrial development influence agriculture rural life and environmental issues. The album is addressing the people’s daily struggles with the petrochemical industry, advocating for more concerns on the environmental pollution problem. “Village Besieged” was the record-high successful project of the crowdfunding platform Flying V. The album has received the 7th Golden Indie Music Awards for Jury Award, Best Album and Best Song for Folk Music; and later on received the Jury Award at the 28th Golden Melody Awards this June.

 

Sheng-Xiang & Band has held three public concerts last May and launched the Village Besieged Campus Tour in Taiwan last October to November visiting ten universities, followed by the The Night March of the Chrysanthemums 15th Anniversary Concert this May celebrating Lin Sheng-Xiang’s debut twenty years ago.

Kay Hwang as the jury chair of the Golden Melody Awards regarded the album “Village Besieged” is “one beyond a music collection but a documentary of Land and Music. Thus besides songs from Village Besieged, the Band will also perform well-known songs from The Night March of the Chrysanthemums and other albums. The legendary Lenny Kwok, vocal of Blackbird, is the special performing guest, marks the ground breaking onstage collaboration of the two musician advocates for the Land.   

 

This concert is supported by the Office of the Arts Administrator of The Chinese University of Hong Kong for making it able to taking place at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.

Lin Sheng-Xiang began writing songs with activist and poet Chung Yong-Feng when they were collaborating on songs for the Labor Exchange Band’s first album, Let’s Sing Mountain Songs. To this date, Chung has received two Best Lyricist Award at the Golden Melody Awards, Lin has received seven Golden Melody Awards and ten Golden Indie Music Awards. The Band started entering the international music scene in 2001 and touring across Europe, Asia and America. Japanese musicians Ken Ohtake and Toru Hayakawa joined as members in 2006 and 2009, Alex Hu joined in 2011, with Noriaki Fukushima and Huang Po-Yu joined in 2014. All band members are veterans in jazz improvisation and brings amazing surprises at their every live performance. Sheng-Xiang & Band is empathic to agricultural workers and has deep concerns for environmental issues, their music has a base of elements from Taiwanese traditional music, coordinates with western music elements and develops into a unique genre of new folk in Taiwan.

 

Lin Sheng-Xiang

Lin is a sincere musician singing the stories of Taiwanese farmers and labour workers. Born and grew up in Meinong, Lin and his first band, Kuan-tsu [Guanzi] Music Pit became involved the fight against a government plan to build a dam in Meinong in 1994, writing several anti-dam protest songs and performing these and traditional Hakka songs around Taiwan. Lin continue his music career with the same compassion on the Land and the Farmers ever since, while expanding his creativity in scope and depth as his sparkles with musicians of various backgrounds.

Ken Ohtake (from Japan)

Ken Ohtake is a very talented and versatile guitarist from Japan. He is capable of playing a wide variety of musical styles ranging from jazz to pop to all types of folk. He produces an impressive range of sounds with his guitar, and is quick to pick up new styles. For many years he played with legendary Okinawan musician Hirayasu Takashi and gained a thorough mastery of Okinawan folk music. He first met Taiwanese Hakka singer-songwriter Lin Sheng Xiang at the Migration Music Festival in Taipei, and the two formed a fruitful musical partnership that remains active to this day, Ken playing a vital role on Sheng Xiang & Band’s albums.

 

Toru Hayakawa (from Japan)

Toru Hayakawa is part of a new generation of electric bass players in Japanese jazz music. His playing style covers traditional jazz, funk, blues, reggae, as well as free jazz, avant-garde and noise music. In 2000, Toru started performing with the legendary Japanese jazz drummer Ryojirou Furusawa and his group “Ne”, which means “tone of a sound” or “roots” in Japanese. In 2009, he recorded an album with guitarist and long-time friend Ken Ohtake, which led to his collaboration with Lin Sheng Xiang on the Hakka singer-songwriter’s 2010 album “The Land Is My Study”. As of late, Toru has been working with an avant-garde/free jazz piano player Mikio Ishida and recorded on Ishida’s album.

 

Alex Wu

A graduate of the National Taiwan College of the Performing Arts, Alex is a master of the erhu, latin percussion, traditional Chinese percussion, hand drum, and drum set.  In recent years he has brought his traditional skills and multiple instrumental talents to world music, jazz, latin and pop, performing with famous artists worldwide. Alex is currently a member of Sizhukong and the Montunos Latin ensemble, a lecturer at the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, and the founder of the EJ Music Studio.

 

Noriaki Fukushima (from Japan)

Noriaki Fukushima was student of Ryoujirou Furusawa, his drum style influenced by different kinds of music, i.e. Jazz, free style, rock and roll. He started touring with Sheng-xiang & band in 2014 and recorded the latest album.

 

Huang Po-Yu

Huang Po-Yu is a young Suona musician born in the 1980s, graduated from the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts and currently studying at the Taipei National University of the Arts.
